मोती और सोनी का शरीर एक ही था। वे एक ही पेट से खाते थे। लेकिन फिर भी दोनों सिर एक-दूसरे से अलग रहते थे और बात-बात पर बहस करते थे।
लाल फल और झगड़ा
एक दिन मोती ने नदी के पास एक पेड़ पर लाल और मीठा फल देखा। मोती ने कहा, “सोनी! देखो, यह फल कितना सुंदर है। चलो इसे खाते हैं।”
पक्षी उस पेड़ पर गया। मोती ने लाल फल तोड़ लिया और खाने लगा। फल बहुत मीठा और सुगंधित था।
सोनी ने कहा, “मोती, मुझे भी थोड़ा फल दो। मैं भी इसका स्वाद चखना चाहता हूं।”
मोती ने गुस्से में कहा, “मैंने इसे पहले देखा। यह मेरा है। और हमारा पेट तो एक ही है। इसलिए मैं खा लूं या तुम खाओ, कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता।”
सोनी उदास हो गया। उसने कहा, “तुमने ठीक नहीं किया, मोती। मुझे भी खाना चाहिए था।”
जहरीला गुलाबी फल
कुछ दिनों बाद पक्षी फिर नदी के पास गया। इस बार सोनी ने एक गुलाबी फल देखा। फल बहुत सुंदर लग रहा था। सोनी ने कहा, “मोती, देखो यह फल कितना अच्छा लग रहा है। अब मैं इसे खाऊंगा।”
पास बैठे दूसरे पक्षियों ने कहा, “यह गुलाबी फल मत खाना। यह जहरीला है। इसे खाने से तुम मर जाओगे।”
मोती ने कहा, “सोनी, यह फल मत खाओ। यह हमारे लिए खतरनाक है। हम दोनों मर सकते हैं।”
लेकिन सोनी गुस्से में था। उसने कहा, “मैंने इसे पहले देखा है। तुमने लाल फल अकेले खाया था। अब मैं इसे खाऊंगा।”
मोती ने चिल्लाकर कहा, “नहीं, सोनी! मत खाओ। यह हमें नुकसान पहुंचाएगा।”
लेकिन सोनी ने मोती की बात नहीं मानी। उसने गुलाबी फल खा लिया।
दुखद अंत
गुलाबी फल खाने के कुछ ही देर बाद पक्षी को अजीब सा महसूस होने लगा। उसके शरीर में दर्द होने लगा। और कुछ ही मिनटों में वह जमीन पर गिर गया।
मोती और सोनी दोनों मर गए।

The Strange Bird with Two Heads
A long time ago, there was a big tree. On that tree lived a strange bird. The bird had two heads. One head was named Moti, and the other was named Soni. Both heads always fought with each other.
Moti and Soni shared the same body. They had the same stomach. But still, the two heads behaved like rivals and argued over everything.
The Red Fruit and the Fight
One day, Moti saw a red, sweet fruit on a tree near the river. Moti said, “Soni! Look at that beautiful fruit. Let’s eat it.”
The bird flew to the tree. Moti picked the red fruit and started eating it. The fruit was very sweet and smelled wonderful.
Soni said, “Moti, give me some of the fruit. I also want to taste it.”
Moti replied angrily, “I saw it first. So it’s mine. And we have only one stomach. Whether I eat it or you eat it, it will go to the same stomach.”
Soni felt sad and said, “You are not being fair, Moti. I should also get some.”
The Poisonous Pink Fruit
A few days later, the bird was flying near the river again. This time, Soni saw a pink fruit on a tree. The fruit looked very pretty. Soni said, “Moti, look at this fruit. Now I will eat it.”
The other birds in the tree said, “Don’t eat it. This pink fruit is poisonous. It will kill you.”
Moti said, “Soni, don’t eat it. It is dangerous for us. We will both die.”
But Soni was angry. He said, “I saw it first. You didn’t share the red fruit with me. Now I will eat this pink fruit.”
Moti shouted, “No, Soni! Don’t eat it. It will harm us.”
But Soni didn’t listen to Moti. He ate the pink fruit.
The Sad End
After eating the pink fruit, the bird started feeling strange. Its body began to ache. And within a few minutes, the bird fell to the ground and died.
